I got a random text from a 702 number and I googled the area code and thank god I did because it reminded that I had totally forgotten about the real 702 and I’ll never again commit such blasphemy and what I’m trying to say is that I’ll be listening to 702 all day today, if anyone needs me.

Dynamite Mine | William Elliott Whitmore
In dynamite mine your hour will come
In a shower of stone and steel beams
They’ll push and they’ll pull against the rock wall
Find you buried among the debris
When they search for you the dogs will sniff him out
From a torn piece of shirt
They’ll bound down the path with lust aon their breath
Find you under a patch of fresh dirt
Son, cover your ears
Lord how the blast will ring
And when a rumbling shakes the walls
You can hear the devil sing
You cut off the past and buried him here
Deep in the belly of the mines
Blasted a wall to seal the tomb
And lived out those short days secure in your crime
Many years have passed but still we trudge on
So we will to the end of our days
Many have come and many have gone
But there’s one who never strays from this place.
Son, cover your ears
Lord how the blast will ring
And when a rumbling shakes the walls
You can hear that devil sing
Son, cover your ears
Lord how the blast will ring
And when a rumbling shakes the walls
You can hear the devil singPosted on June 12, 2012 via mr. cogito with 13 notes

Patty Griffin | Useless Desires
Say goodbye to the old street that never cared much for you anyway
And the different colored doorways you thought would let you in one day
Goodbye to the old bus stop frozen and waiting
The weekend addition has this town over-rated
You walk across the baseball green
The grass has turned to straw
A flock of birds tries to fly away from where you are
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye old friend
I can’t make you stay
I can’t spend another ten years wishing you would anyway
How the sky turns to fire
Against the telephone wire
And even I’m getting tired of useless desires
Everyday I take a bitter pill
It gets me on my way
For the little aches and pains
The ones I have from day to day
To help me think a little less about the things I miss
To help me not to wonder how I ended up like this
Walk down to the railroad track and ride a rusty train
With a million other faces I shoot through the city veins
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye old friend
You wanted to be free
And somewhere beyond the bitter end is where I wanna be
How the sky turns to fire
Against the telephone wire
And even I’m getting tired of useless desires
Say goodbye to the old building that never tried to know your name
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye old friend
You won’t be seeing me again
Goodbye to all the window panes shining in the sun
Like diamonds on a winter day
Goodbye, goodbye to everyone
How the sky turns to fire
Against the telephone wire
It burns the last of the day down
And I’m the last one hanging around waiting
On a train track and the train never comes back
And even I’m getting tired of useless desiresPosted on May 22, 2012 via Pioneer Man with 13 notes

The Avett Brothers — If It’s The Beaches
Don’t say it’s over
Cause that’s the worst news I
could hear I swear that I will
Do my best to be here
just the way you like it
Even though its hard to hide
Push my feelings all aside
I will rearrange my plans and
change for youIf I could go back
That’s the first thing I would do
I swear that I would
Do my best to follow through
Come up with a master plan
A homerun hit, a winning stand
A gaurantee and not a promise
That I’ll never let your love
slip from my handsIf it’s the beaches
If it’s the beaches’ sands you want
Then you will have them
If it’s the mountains’ bending rivers
Then you will have them
If it’s the wish to run away
Then I will grant it
Take whatever you think of
While I go gas up the truck
Pack the old love letters up
We will read them when
we forget why we left here -

Posting this for the third time because tumblr deleted my second post somehow.
So now I’m reblogging Lainey’s reblog of my own post.
This is what we all get for letting facebook buy Instagram.
Regina Spektor - On the Radio
Reposted because tumblr’s new Spotify option (which I had used) requires readers to have Spotify installed.
So.
Last time I posted a Regina Spektor song, Alison asked me if I was on my period.
But everyone shut up and listen and shut up, because this song is amazing and here is why:
There are three major parts to this song. In the first, she’s being a crazy person and singing about ancient bees and driving Hearsts through crowds. It sounds like nonsense, and makes it easy to discount the song as just some Regina Spektor being weirdness. Then she starts singing about November Rain. The proper noun version. And it’s a little less weird.
That’s the end of the first part.
Then all of a sudden and out of nowhere, she just starts making it rain truth bombs.
This is how it works
You’re young until you’re not
You love until you don’t
You try until you can’t
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breathAnd that’s the end of part two, this section of her just thinking about life in general.
Then she immediately after gets all kinds of focused and serious.
No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else’s heart
Pumping someone else’s bloodWait what. She was just singing about ancient bees stinging her knees. Now all of a sudden she’s dropped the crazy and is trying to tell us about how things are?
I can’t love that enough. Because it is so easy to discount this song as some poppy nonsense then move on and miss the point.
I love everything that is like this.
Now someone bring me some chocolate.
